Le numérique est une réalité technique incontournable qui est appelé à transformer en profondeur la gestion des archives, notamment la conservation des documents audiovisuels. En effet, contrairement au système analogique, le numérique permet de nouveaux types de consultation et de lecture d'un document audiovisuel, mais alors en altérant sa forme et au détriment de l'authenticité et de l'intégrité de son contenu. L'auteur se penche sur cette question et propose une réflexion théorique pour comprendre la nature et la spécificité des documents audiovisuels numériques. D'abord, il définit la notion de document et la notion d'archive, pour ensuite dégager les caractéristiques du document audiovisuel et plus particulièrement du document audiovisuel numérique. Finalement, l'auteur termine en abordant le défi particulier que pose le numérique aux institutions d'archives pour assurer l'intelligibilité des documents.
Digitalization is an unavoidable technical reality which is having the effect of profoundly transforming the management of archives, particularly the conservation of audiovisual documents. Contrary to analogue systems, digitalization is permitting new types of consultation and reading of audiovisual documents, but at the same time it is altering their form to the detriment of the authenticity and integrity of their contents. The author looks into this dilemma and proposes a theoretical reflection that seeks to understand the nature and specificity of digital audiovisual documents. First, he defines the notion of document and the concept of archive, to enable him to identify the characteristics of an audiovisual document, focusing in particular on digital audiovisual documents. The author concludes with a discussion of the special challenge posed to archival institutions by the need to assure the intelligibility of digitalized documents.
