Ottawa, ON, October 8, 2024- The Canadian Council of Archives has formed a task force to study and redefine the national archival information network, ARCHIVESCANADA.ca. The task force is made up of 18 members from across Canada. Members have the following responsibilities:

  • Develop a profile of users (researchers, archive users, archivists) and their needs.
  • Assess the current state of ARCHIVESCANADA.ca and any problems encountered.
  • Determine whether solutions exist to improve the status quo.
  • Evaluate alternatives to the status quo.

The Task Force will present its final report on ARCHIVESCANADA.ca to the Canadian Council of Archives at the end of its two-year mandate, which began in January 2024.

The mandate and membership of the working group are available on the Canadian Council of Archives website: https: //archivescanada.ca/fr/comites/

The minutes of the working group's meetings are available to the public and can be consulted here: https: //drive.google.com/drive/folders/1Uev64xTyn2bY0MQZzeFRJvaHffLfYi_i?usp=drive_link

A survey of archive, gallery, library and museum staff, as well as a survey of researchers, will be distributed this autumn to gather public feedback. Individual interviews and focus groups are also planned. Research into the history and context of ARCHIVESCANADA.ca is also underway.

The composition of the working group was arrived at organically through discussions with the CCA, the Joint US-Canada AtoM Users Group, and through invitations to contacts within provincial and territorial archival associations. We recognize that the composition of the group does not reflect the rich diversity of the Canadian gallery, library, archive and museum (GLAM) sector. We hope to consult as many people as possible through surveys, interviews and focus groups. If you would like to support this work by participating in a focus group, an individual interview or by nominating members to join the working group, please do not hesitate to contact us.
