The International Congress on Archives - ICA Barcelona 2025 will take place from October 27 to 30. Cédric Champagne will be attending as a delegate of the Association des archivistes du Québec (AAQ).

Cédric Champagne has been Director of Archives and Information Management at Université du Québec à Montréal since 2016. Over the course of his career, he has held various consulting positions in information management, notably for the Gallant, Laurent and Charbonneau commissions of inquiry. He has also held various positions in information and archive management at Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec (BAnQ) and Agence universitaire de la Francophonie. He is currently President of the Forum of Professional Associations (FPA) of the International Council on Archives (ICA), where he represents the Association des archivistes du Québec, and sits on the ICA Board of Directors. In the past, Cédric has held various positions within the Association des archivistes du Québec, including co-director of the professional affairs committee, treasurer, vice-president, associative affairs, and president.

During his presence at the ICA Congress, Cédric will be taking part in a round table discussion entitled "Sustainable, successful trade associations: FPA members share lessons learned". The aim of this round table is to provide a forum for professional associations to present the initiatives that have contributed to the success and long-term sustainability of their association. Roundtable participants will represent trade associations from different regions, each bringing their own perspective on the challenges they have faced and the strategies that have enabled them to succeed.

Cédric will also be chairing the "National and Institutional Innovations" session. This session will bring together 4 speakers to highlight various public archive initiatives in Europe aimed at modernizing, enhancing and opening up institutions to society. Presentations focus on innovative projects: creative residencies in archives (Arxiu Comarcal de l'Urgell), the creation of the National Archives of Monaco, the transformation of Barcelona's archival network and the development of digital preservation in Catalonia. Together, they illustrate how archives are becoming agents of cultural and technological change. This session demonstrates a shared desire to combine memory, innovation and citizen participation.

Note that Cynthia Viau-Mainville will be attending the ICA Annual General Meeting to represent the AAQ and her right to vote as a Category B member (Professional Association).

The AAQ's participation in the ICA 2025 conference is in line with Axe 3: Notoriété et reconnaissance of our Orientations stratégiques 2024-2026 (link to the Orientations stratégiques), which aims to raise the profile and visibility of the archival profession.

"I feel extremely privileged to be able to exchange and collaborate with archivists and information professionals from every continent. I want Quebec to shine on the international stage, and I'm proud to represent the AAQ and UQAM. The Forum des associations professionnelles is a wonderful forum for developing a network for the benefit of the AAQ and its members. "

Keep an eye on the AAQ's LinkedIn page in the coming days for live content from the ICA 2025 conference, then the Convergence blog in the weeks following the conference for feedback from Cédric.
