Mission and mandate

The Professional Affairs Committee (PAC) of the Association des archivistes du Québec (AAQ) contributes to the AAQ's activities in the development and recognition of the profession, oversees the preservation and promotion of the AAQ's mission and fundamental values, as adopted by the General Assembly, and advises the AAQ authorities on these matters.

Functions

The CAP advises as needed on :

  • Adherence to, respect for and promotion of the AAQ's mission and core values;
  • public recognition of the profession and its various levels of practice;
  • standardization of professional practices;
  • the code of ethics;
  • political intervention by the AAQ on any issue directly or indirectly affecting the profession;
    any other matter it deems appropriate, or that the Board of Directors (BOD) or Executive Committee (EC) may wish to submit to it.

The CAP also performs the following functions

  • maintain a watch system to identify issues affecting archivistics and archivists, and to enable a thoughtful and relevant response;
  • support, in consultation with the EC, the AAQ's positions before the appropriate bodies;
  • draft reports, briefs and policies on subjects falling within its mandate, or referred to it by the Board or EC;
  • draft letters of intervention for the President.
