Normand Charbonneau named Friend of the ICA

During the International Congress on Archives - ICA Barcelona 2025, the Friends of the International Council on Archives (ICA) Awards ceremony took place. This program aims to recognize and celebrate extraordinary contributions to the field of archives and records management by professionals from around the world.

Normand Charbonneau, one of the 2024 laureates, received his award at the ceremony. The title of Friend of the ICA is the highest distinction awarded by the ICA. It honours individuals who have made outstanding contributions both to the ICA community and to the archival profession internationally. This prestigious lifetime award is a testament to the commitment, leadership and exceptional impact of those who have significantly advanced the field of archives and records management.
Now retired, Normand Charbonneau worked for 25 years at the Archives nationales du Québec, where he held various positions until his appointment as Curator and Director General of Archives at BAnQ. He then became Assistant Librarian and Archivist of Canada and Chief Operating Officer at Library and Archives Canada. He has been involved with the Association des archivistes du Québec (AAQ), the Association of Canadian Archivists (ACA), the Council of Canadian Archives (CCA), the Association internationale des archivistes francophones (AISF) and the International Council on Archives (ICA).
