Launch of the official website of the International Congress of Archives - ICA Barcelona 2025 and announcement of the Call for Papers

We are delighted to announce the launch of the official website for the International Congress on Archives - ICA Barcelona 2025, to be held in Barcelona from October 27 to 30, 2025.

The event, whose theme is "Knowing the past. Creating the future", will bring together archivists, records managers and related professionals from around the world to explore the future of our profession.

The official Congress website, accessible at https://icabarcelona2025.cat/en/, will serve as the central hub for all Congress information, including registration details, program updates and sponsorship opportunities .

One of the main features available on the site is theCall for Papers, now open for submissions. This is a unique opportunity for professionals to contribute to global discussions on archives and records management by sharing their knowledge, experience and innovative ideas. The call is available in English, French, Catalan and Spanish.

Sub-themes

The Congress program is structured around five interconnected sub-themes that reflect current challenges and opportunities in the field of archives:

1. Memory management / Identity preservation
2. Conflicts, disasters and displacement
3. Archives as guardians of rights
4. Digital and accessible
5. The future of archives

Each sub-theme tackles crucial issues, such as the role of archives in preserving identities, responding to global conflicts, promoting rights, advancing digital preservation and shaping the future of the profession.

Session types

We invite participants to submit proposals for different types of sessions, including :

• Classic presentations

• Collaborative "Co-Lab " sessions

• Lightning speeches

• Round table

• Posters

The deadline for submissions is January 16, 2025, and successful applicants will be notified by the end of April 2025.
