The International Council on Archives celebrates 13 years of the Universal Declaration on Archives!
On the occasion of the 13th anniversary of the Universal Declaration on Archives, the ICA is marking the occasion with a series of activities over the coming weeks. Here is their press release:
On November 10, we'll be celebrating the 13th anniversary of the Universal Declaration on Archives (UDA)! To celebrate this day, we have planned a series of events throughout November in collaboration with the ICA Awareness Expert Group (ICA/AEG) to deepen your understanding of the UDA and its fundamental role in archives and records management.

About the session :
Moderated by Carlos Zapata Cardenas, this session will explore practical ways of using the UDHR as a powerful tool for raising awareness on a global scale. Established in 2010 and endorsed by UNESCO in 2011, the UDHR highlights the vital role of archives in the preservation of human rights, collective memory and transparent governance. It is a founding document for promoting good records management and the work of professional archivists worldwide.
- DUA template : In the coming weeks, we'll be delighted to present you with an updated version of the Universal Declaration on Archives (DUA) template, complete with our new visual identity! This modernized template aligns with our evolution while continuing to emphasize the core principles of the UDA. We look forward to sharing this updated resource with you, to enable you to use and promote the UDAA in your outreach efforts, with an updated and consistent design. Stay tuned!
- Online course : Get ready for Understanding and Using the Universal Declaration on Archives, an enriched course soon to be available on the ICA's online learning platform. Aimed at both members and non-members, this course covers the history of the UDA, its key principles and how to use it effectively in outreach and evaluation activities.
- DUA Assessment Tool : We will also introduce a practical tool to help you assess your records and archives management operations against DUA guidelines. This will be a valuable resource for promoting and reinforcing archival standards.
